Theiss Elementary School Recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community

Theiss Elementary School has received a special honor for its efforts in enhancing student success—being named a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) School.

This recognition is thanks to the school's effective use of Solution Tree’s PLC at Work™ strategies, which have been pivotal in boosting student performance.

Model PLCs are some of the highest-performing schools around the globe. PLCs are schools and districts in which educators recognize the key to improved learning for students is ongoing, job-embedded learning for the adults who serve those students.

“Thank you to our Theiss leadership, faculty, and staff for earning the recognition of a Model PLC campus. This award is a result of your commitment to EVERY student’s success at Theiss and the consistent collaboration to adjust teaching to reach all our learners,” Klein ISD Chief Academic Officer Dr. Anthony Indelicato said.  “I respect and appreciate your ongoing efforts to ensure student achievement is the focus at Theiss.

Thank you for modeling what it means to be an impactful campus focused on learning and growing to meet our students’ needs!”

In a PLC-focused school, the emphasis is on personalized learning. Theiss made a targeted shift from a teaching organization to a learning organization by creating the systems and expectations necessary for data-informed collaborative teams to meet and make targeted instructional decisions as a collective PLC

“I am very proud of our staff for earning this accomplishment. This is something we have all worked toward for years. This is so important to us because it means we are aligned in our purpose for student learning,” Theiss principal Jessica Taylor said. “We've been able to build collaborative, cohesive teams that are learning and growing together and able to meet the needs of students better than ever before. More than anything, going through this has shown us how important it is for us to continue to learn, grow, and model the learning process for our students.”

To become a Model PLC, Theiss updated its mission and teacher commitment documents to unify staff beliefs. Teachers established consistent planning and data meeting procedures, using the four PLC questions for efficiency. Four years ago, they implemented an intervention system to support struggling students and align lessons with TEKS. These practices have greatly improved the overall culture.

Theiss is one of six Klein ISD schools that has proudly earned this designation since 2019. Achieving this recognition is a significant accomplishment, requiring a strong commitment to PLC methods for at least three years. Schools must also showcase how these strategies have positively impacted student outcomes, reflecting their dedication to fostering academic success.

Congratulations, Theiss Elementary, for continuing the tradition of excellence within the Klein ISD!
